Moving on to the Bordeaux varieties, the 2010 Red Wine Blend Graves is comprised of 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Cabernet Franc and 23% Merlot and comes from a variety of vineyards throughout the Columbia Valley (Bacchus, Dionysus, Gamache and Weinbau). Seeing roughly 40% of the blend on new French oak, it is beautifully perfumed, with copious black raspberry, lead pencil shavings, underbrush and spring flower-like qualities on the nose. On the palate, it is a medium to full bodied, elegant Bordeaux blend that has silky tannin, good acidity and outstanding length. It will drink nicely over the coming 10 to12 years
The Graves is the newest àMaurice Artist Series release—46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Cabernet Franc and 23% Merlot. It's reticent at first, and actually blossomed a full 24 hours after it was opened and tasted. Tightly-wrapped cassis and dried cherry fruit carries a whiff of sweet tomato. With generous airing, the wine gains in both complexity and mass.
Good bright medium red. Musky raspberry, redcurrant and tobacco leaf on the nose. Supple and pliant, with lovely balancing acidity to the red berry and spice flavors. This juicy midweight is firmly built but not hard, finishing with enticing lingering perfume. Anna Shafer told me she did an extra pass through the vines to get the remaining fruit ripe; she recommends giving the 2010s a lot of decanting as it's "a shy vintage."
